The worlds cheapest flights, powered by Ryanair
FlyPlanner is a tool to find the absolute cheapest flights possible. It searches all possible combinations of flights over a broad date-range to find cheaper flights than traditional tools. This tool is not for everyone though, it targets the extreme low-end user that is willing to handle inconvenience.
The backend holds a daily updated index of all flights collected from a reverse engineered Ryanair API, and constructs a graph to efficiently filter through it on user queries. The algorithm itself is a heavily optimized DFS search paired with aggressive pruning, implemented multicore in Rust.
In a 10-destination test, FlyPlanner beat competitors 9 times, saving users an average of 29%. It has the largest advantage on complex queries, finding paths to niche airports with no direct connection for meaningfully lower prices than any other tool.
The goal is to add more airlines, but this is harder than it might seem. Just for Ryanair I need to index hundreds of thousands of flights per day, which is impossible to do for other airlines that all enforce rate-limits or advanced bot protection. Theoretically it is easy to add though (algorithm and db support it). If you have any ideas, feel free to email me at erik[at]heimdal.dev
